Lynn Cox, age 46, was arrested yesterday by FBI agents at her home in Bakersfield, California, on charges related to her role in a murder for hire scheme. Cox, a Cardiac Technician at a local Bakersfield hospital, was taken into custody without incident.
According to allegations contained in the affidavit in support of the complaint, the scheme began last month when Cox told a Confidential Source she was interested in having her husband killed in order to collect insurance proceeds. The Confidential Source contacted the FBI and a meeting was arranged between Cox, the Confidential Source and an undercover FBI agent.
During the meeting Cox and the undercover agent agreed on a fee of $10,000 for the murder of her husband. She provided the undercover agent with photographs of her husband, his pick-up truck, and a propane tractor-trailer truck he drove for work. Cox also instructed the undercover agent that the murder should look like a botched robbery attempt. When told a deposit of $1,000 would be required Cox gave the undercover agent $600 from her purse and a short time later delivered the remaining $400.
Cox was scheduled to maker her initial appearance in federal court today in Bakersfield.
