Hat' Bandit Sought by FBI and Police
FBI agents, sheriff’s deputies and police are trying to track down a serial bank robber, dubbed the “Straw Hat” bandit, who has robbed four banks in the Sacramento area over the past three weeks. In each of the robberies the suspect wore a large straw hat and used notes to demand money.
The ‘Straw Hat’ bandit hit CitiBank in the 400 block of Howe Avenue in Sacramento about 3 p.m. Wednesday and is also wanted in connection with the April 30 robbery of Tri Counties Bank, 4650 Natomas Boulevard; the May 12 robbery of Sterlent Credit Union, 2648 Watt Avenue; and the May 16 robbery of Wells Fargo Bank, 8870 Madison Avenue.
During the robberies the suspect indicated he had a gun but no weapons have been seen.
He is described as a white male 35 – 50 years of age with salt and pepper hair. He is 5’10”, weighs approximately 180 pounds and wears black wraparound type sunglasses on a lanyard.
The Sacramento Violent Crimes Task Force, comprised of FBI agents and Sacramento County Sheriff's Department robbery detectives, are seeking information on this unidentified male bank robber . Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.00.
