"Stuffed Shirt" Bank Robber Pleads Guilty
Thunder Valley Casino Personnel Identify Player from Bank Surveillance Images
SACRAMENTO, Calif.—United States Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced today
that SCOTT STEWART SINGEWALD, 42, of Roseville, Calif., pleaded guilty this morning to
seven counts of bank robbery before United States District Court Judge Garland E. Burrell Jr.
This case is the product of an investigation by the Sacramento Violent Crimes Task
Force, which includes the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Roseville Police Department, and
the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.
According to Assistant United States Attorney Michelle Rodriguez, who is prosecuting
the case, the task force dubbed SINGEWALD the “stuffed shirt bandit” because he stuffed the
bank robbery loot into his shirt while fleeing the bank.
On June 23, 2008, SINGEWALD robbed the Wells Fargo Bank located at 945 Highway
65, Lincoln, Calif. while wearing a dark hat and a loud Hawaiian-type shirt. After robbing the
bank of approximately $11,375, he went to the Thunder Valley Casino. Law enforcement
distributed bank surveillance images of the June 23, 2008 robber, and on June 27, 2008, Thunder
Valley Casino security personnel reported to law enforcement that it had identified a customer
on a surveillance video from inside the casino dated June 23, 2008. SINGEWALD was arrested
without incident outside his residence at a Roseville motel.
He was convicted of six additional bank robberies:
- September 1, 2007, Bank of America, 2400 N. Texas Street, Fairfield, Calif.
- May 3, 2008, Bank of the West 186 Main Street, Woodland, Calif.
- May 16, 2008, Central Valley Community Bank, 1919 Howard Road, Madera, Calif.
- May 24, 2008, Washington Mutual Bank, 2866 W. March Lane, Stockton, Calif.
- June 11, 2008, River City Bank, 3992 Douglas Blvd., Suite 110, Roseville, Calif.
- June 20, 2008, Bank of the West, 3509 El Camino Ave., Carmichael, Calif.
For each of his seven bank robbery convictions, SINGEWALD faces up to 20 years in
prison, a three-year term of supervised release, a fine of $250,000, and an order of restitution.
The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after
consideration of the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of
variables and any applicable statutory sentencing factors. As part of his plea agreement,
SINGEWALD has agreed to pay restitution for all seven of his bank robberies.
SINGEWALD remains in custody until his sentencing scheduled for December 5, 2008.
