Sacramento Man Pleads Guilty to Possession of Child Pornography
SACRAMENTO, Calif.—United States Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced today
that RALPH WILLIAM ADAMSON, 66, of Sacramento, Calif., pleaded guilty today before
United States District Judge Edward J. Garcia to possession of child pornography.
This case is the product of an extensive joint investigation by the California Department
of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
According to Assistant United States Attorney Kyle Reardon, who prosecuted the case,
on November 20, 2007, ADAMSON possessed child pornography on two computers that he
owned. Agents ultimately identified 53 images of child pornography.
The maximum penalty is 10 years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and a lifetime term of
supervised release. The defendant may also be ordered to pay restitution to any victims. The
actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of
the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables and any
applicable statutory sentencing factors.
ADAMSON is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Garcia on November 14, 2008, at
10:00 a.m.
