Oregon Man Indicted for the Armed Robbery
of Premier West Bank in Siskiyou County, California
SACRAMENTO, Calif.—United States Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced today that a federal grand jury in Sacramento returned an indictment today charging EDWARD JAY SILVA, 31, of Medford, Oregon, with armed bank robbery for robbing the Premier West Bank in Dorris, California, on July 14, 2005.
This case is the product of a joint investigation by the FBI, Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department, Medford Police Department, and Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.
According to Assistant United States Attorney Matthew Stegman, SILVA previously pleaded guilty on December 18, 2008 in Oregon District Court to armed robbery of a Washington Mutual Bank in Gold Hill, Oregon. He was sentenced on January 17, 2008 to 25 years in federal prison for the Washington Mutual Bank robbery. He is currently serving his prison sentence in Victorville, California and will transported to Sacramento for arraignment on the indictment.
The maximum statutory penalty for armed bank robbery is 25 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. However, the actual sentence will be dictated by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of factors, and will be imposed at the discretion of the court. The charges are only allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
