Stockton Man Sentenced to 188 Months for Crack Sale
SACRAMENTO, Calif.—United States Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced that
CALVIN MITCHELL, 36, of Stockton, Calif., was sentenced today by United States District
Judge William B. Shubb to 188 months in federal prison. The defendant pleaded guilty to
distribution of crack cocaine on February 29, 2008.
This case is the product of a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation
and the Stockton Police Department.
According to Assistant United States Attorney Philip Ferrari, who prosecuted the case, in
May of 2004, a confidential informant arranged to purchase approximately four ounces of crack
cocaine from MITCHELL in the parking lot of Kosmos Burgers, 720 East Charter Way. FBI
agents and other law enforcement were present to observe the purchase, and one agent posed in
an undercover capacity as the ultimate purchaser.
MITCHELL’s long criminal history, which includes multiple prior convictions for
firearm and narcotics-related offenses, qualified him as a career offender for sentencing
purposes, a key factor in the Court’s decision to hand down the 188 month sentence.
